2012 marks J.B.Belzer's 17th season as the head coach of the Regis University women’s soccer team. Hired prior to the 1996 campaign, Belzer is just the second head coach in program history. During his first 16 years with the Rangers, Belzer has amassed an 231-97-18 (.694) overall record.
In his initial season in 1996, Belzer led Regis to a 15-5-3 overall record and proceeded to guide the Rangers to their second appearance at the NCAA II Final Four. In2001, Belzer guided the Rangers to one of the most successful seasons in program history. In addition to setting a new single-season record for victories (18-1-1 overall), the team finished the season ranked #10 (NCAA II)in the country. RMAC champions six times (’96, ’00, ’01, ’03, '10, '11) the Rangers have participated in eight NCAA tournaments in Belzer’s career. Ten Rangers have been named NSCAA All-America and four have earned the prestigious NSCAA Scholar-Athlete All-America recognition.
A native of Edmond, Oklahoma, Belzer attended and played soccer at the University of Tulsa for one season before transferring to Oklahoma State University. While at OSU, Belzer served as the head coach of the boy’s soccer team at Still water High School. Upon earning his Bachelor's Degree in Science Education from OSU in1991, Belzer returned to Edmond Memorial High School, his alma mater, to teach science and coach boy's soccer. During his three years at EMHS, Belzer registered a 33-7-4 overall record and captured the 1994 State Championship.
Belzer, who also served an assistant men's soccer coach at Oklahoma Christian University in1992, returned to the University of Tulsa in 1994 as a graduate assistant for both the men's and women's programs. In 1997, while coaching at Regis, Belzer completed his MBA (Tulsa).
In addition to having coached a number of girl's club squads, Belzer has also spent time with several boy's and girl's Olympic Development Program (ODP) teams. From 1998 to 2001, Belzer served as the Chair on the NCAA II Midwest Regional Rankings Committee and was the National Chair in 2001. Belzer holds both an NSCAA Premier Diploma and a US Soccer National "A" License.
Tony McCall
Tony McCall will begin his fourth season at the helm of the Regis Men's Soccer Team in 2012. In 2009 McCall had one of the best rookie seasons of any coach in Regis history. He guided the Rangers to a 9-6-4 overall record and a7-3-4 RMAC record. The Rangers finished fourth in the RMAC and earned a spot in the RMAC Tournament where they fell to eventual national champion Fort Lewis.
The 2010 Regis Men's Soccer Team set a new standard as the program earned its first NCAA Tournament bid in the program's history. The 14-3-4 record earned the Rangers 2nd place in the RMAC and a #18 National Ranking in the final NSCAA poll. Two players earned All-America honors and four Ranger men's players earned NSCAA Scholar-Athlete All-America. McCall has a three year Regis coaching record of 36-13-9 (.698) overall.
Tony is currently an instructor for the Colorado Youth Soccer Association and an Associate Staff coach for the NSCAA. McCall is a Region IV ODP Staff Coach and was the 86 Boys Head Coach participating in the prestigious Disney College Showcase in Orlando and was the Assistant Coach when the Regional team toured Costa Rica.
McCall previously worked at The Sport Source where he traveled the country speaking to prospective student-athletes and their parents by helping them navigate the college search process. Prior to that, McCall was Technical Director for the Colorado Storm Soccer Association from 2005-2007. He was responsible for over 100 local soccer coaches and their education as well as the organizations player development and the overall budget of the Colorado Storm.
McCall was on the Board of Directors for the National Soccer Coaches Association which is the largest coaches organization, regardless of sport, in the world for 6 years. He served on the board of the almost 30,000 member association from 2003 to 2009.
McCall was an assistant coach at Metro State for two seasons(2002-03) where he was primarily responsible for recruiting prospective student-athletes on a local, regional and national basis. Prior to his stint at Metro State, he was the Executive Director for the Colorado Xtreme Soccer Club in Denver from 1998-2005.
Prior to moving to Denver, McCall was the head coach at NCAA Division I Stetson University in Deland, Fla. from 1993-98. McCall won 34 games in five seasons at Stetson including an 11-8-1 record in 1997. A native of Ireland, McCall got his first coaching position at Div. I South Alabama in Mobile where he was the assistant coach from 1987-93.
McCall holds a UEFA "A" License in addition to the NSCAA Premier Diploma and an IFA "A" License.
